Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) presented a protein interaction map as a clue to identifying drug targets for autism. Using 100 autism risk genes, the researchers identified more than 1,800 protein interactions, 87% of which had not been previously reported. In a human organoid model, the researchers confirmed that the interaction between FOXP1 and FOXP4 induced autism-like features and that removing FOXP4 restored the normal phenotype.
