Researchers at Zhongshan Hospital, affiliated with Fudan University in China, reported phase 3 clinical results showing that surgical resection may increase the chance of tumor-free survival in patients with advanced liver cancer. The researchers compared 201 patients whose tumors became resectable after four cycles of combination treatment with atezolizumab and bevacizumab, dividing them into a surgery group and a continued-treatment group. The surgery group showed a trend toward longer survival than the continued-treatment group, while the incidence of grade 3-4 or higher adverse events was 39% in the surgery group, compared with 21% in the continued-treatment group.
