The artificial intelligence (AI) model DepFormer identified the FLAD1 gene as a metabolic vulnerability in hypoxic tumors. The study also found that its inhibitor selectively blocks cancer cell proliferation. FLAD1 inhibition impairs the function of mitochondrial complex II, preventing cancer cells from adapting to hypoxic conditions. The findings, published in Cell Reports, which has an impact factor of 7.7, suggest a new target for cancer treatment.
