Altimmune’s GLP-1/glucagon dual agonist pemvidutide reduced heavy-drinking days by 4.2 days and lowered an alcohol consumption biomarker by 38% in a phase 2 clinical trial for alcohol use disorder (AUD). In the 24-week trial, the biomarker increased by 5.9% in the placebo group, achieving statistical significance. Based on these results, Altimmune plans to consult with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and begin a phase 3 trial for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) later this year.
