Gangwon National University Hospital and Jeju National University Hospital have been designated as partner veterans hospitals, allowing approximately 91,000 veterans and other eligible beneficiaries in the Gangwon and Jeju regions to receive medical benefits starting Dec. 1. Noncovered medical expenses, including MRI and ultrasound examinations that were not supported at existing contracted hospitals, will be covered according to beneficiary-specific discount rates of 30% to 90%. Individuals who have contributed to special missions will also be eligible. The designation will operate as a 2-year pilot program, after which the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs will consider permanent implementation following an analysis of its effectiveness.
