Daewoong Pharmaceutical has acquired technology for a 3D liver organoid platform for toxicity assessment developed through a research project by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Unlike conventional 2D cell models, the technology reproduces actual liver tissue and bile excretion structures, improving its ability to predict human responses. It can also maintain its function after long-term culture and freezing and thawing. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety is pursuing international standardization of the technology under OECD test guidelines. If adopted, Daewoong Pharmaceutical is expected to manufacture and supply it.
