Gilead’s new HIV prevention drug lenacapavir, which is administered twice a year and has nearly 100% efficacy, is sparking controversy after being priced at 42 million won annually—700 times its production cost. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) criticized Gilead’s exclusive pricing policy and launched the “Two Doses, $40” campaign. The four countries where clinical trials were conducted are reportedly expected to be excluded from next year’s list of countries authorized to sell generics.
