Bio News

Researchers at the University of Chicago successfully inhibited pancreatic cancer growth and activated CD8+ T cells that attack cancer cells using probiotics loaded with modified interleukin-2 (IL-2). The probiotics were designed to proliferate and release IL-2 only inside tumors, where oxygen levels are low, increasing treatment efficacy while minimizing systemic adverse effects. In animal studies, combining the probiotics with chemotherapy, radiation therapy and other treatments produced greater effects than administration alone, and safety evaluations in humans are planned for the future.
