Using “saturation gene editing” technology, researchers analyzed more than 500 variants in the RNU4-2 gene and identified two rare neurodevelopmental disorders. In addition to the previously known dominant genetic disorder, the technology identified mutations causing a new recessive genetic disorder in 38 patients. This makes it possible to directly assess the pathogenicity of variants of uncertain significance (VUS), potentially improving the diagnosis rate for rare diseases.
