Axsome Therapeutics secured FDA approval for Auvelity as a treatment for Alzheimer disease agitation (ADA), raising the product’s peak sales estimate to $8 billion from the previous range of $2.5 billion to $6 billion. First approved in 2022 as a treatment for major depressive disorder (MDD), Auvelity is the first nonantipsychotic drug for the ADA indication and will compete with Lundbeck and Otsuka’s Rexulti. The company plans to expand its sales force to 630 representatives to target 68,000 health care professionals and officially launch the product for the ADA indication next month.
