Bio News

As of 2025, approximately 30% of the world’s innovative drug assets originated in China, but more than 52% of these assets were licensed out at an early stage before Phase 1 clinical trials. This indicates that China has secured the ability to discover drug candidates but lacks the global clinical development capabilities needed to precisely validate efficacy in small patient populations. In fact, the success rate for oncology drugs from Phase 1 through FDA approval is less than 5%, suggesting that future success or failure will depend on clinical development capabilities.
