Heidi Overton, the nominee to lead the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), said she would "follow the law" in decisions involving vaccines and the abortion drug mifepristone.
At a Senate hearing, Overton described the MMR vaccine as "safe and effective" and pledged to pursue reforms to accelerate early-stage drug research.
Overton emphasized U.S. innovation leadership in the face of China's rising biotech industry, and RBC Capital Markets rated the hearing "net positive."
