Viking Therapeutics said weight loss with its obesity drug VK2735 was maintained at up to 90% after dosing was changed from once weekly to every other week or once monthly in a phase 2 clinical trial.
Viking divided 180 patients with obesity into once-weekly dosing and placebo groups for 21 weeks, followed by 12 weeks of maintenance therapy.
Thomas Smith, an analyst at Leerink Research, said the data provide a basis for overcoming adherence challenges with GLP-1 obesity drugs.
