Researchers at the University of Utah’s Huntsman Cancer Institute identified a biological process through which obesity blocks the death of breast cancer cells.
Fat cells in people with normal body weight produce more of the fatty acid 9S-HODE, which induces cancer cell death.
The researchers said that increasing 9S-HODE in obese fat cells inhibited breast cancer tumor growth in preclinical models.
