Researchers led by George Church at Harvard Medical School have challenged the longstanding theory that tRNA must have a CCA terminus to transport amino acids. The researchers confirmed that modified tRNA lacking a CCA terminus also binds normally to all aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases in E. coli. Based on this finding, the researchers developed the Agentex system to rapidly redesign the genetic code.
