Researchers at Peking University Cancer Hospital in China found that the probiotic Lactobacillus salivarius enhances the efficacy of immunotherapy for gastrointestinal cancer. The bacterium secretes the metabolite chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA), making tumors more sensitive to anti-PD-1 treatment. In an analysis of 278 patients, the researchers said the bacterium and CDCA could serve as biomarkers for predicting the efficacy of immunotherapy.
