JW Pharmaceutical has applied to South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) for approval of a domestic phase 3 clinical trial of the injectable diabetes drug bofanglutide. The trial will enroll 174 patients with type 2 diabetes whose blood glucose is not controlled with combination therapy using metformin and an SGLT-2 inhibitor. Bofanglutide is expected to improve medication convenience by reducing the number of annual doses by half through administration once every 2 weeks.
