A new mechanism has been identified by which coronavirus achieves immune evasion through the host circular RNA ‘cGLIS3.’ Two proteins—the viral nucleoprotein and host IGF2BP2—work together to promote cGLIS3 production. This RNA induces K48 ubiquitination and degradation of IGF2BP2, blocking the antiviral response; the mechanism is conserved across several mammals, including humans and pigs.
