Shanghai Jiao Tong University converted cancer cells into a vaccine that delivers four genes to the cells, enabling them to present their own antigens. These reprogrammed cancer cells activated CD4+ and CD8+ T cells without professional antigen-presenting cells and induced complete tumor remission in mouse models. The findings open the possibility of overcoming treatment resistance through future combination therapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors.
