First entry into Africa; gains the continent’s first CAP-accredited laboratory Acquisition price undisclosed

Labcorp has expanded its regional footprint for laboratory services by acquiring MLM Medical Labs, a provider of central and specialty laboratory services.
According to U.S. biopharma news outlet Fierce Biotech on the 9th (local time), medical device and laboratory testing giant Labcorp announced that it had acquired MLM Medical Labs. The acquisition price was not disclosed.
MLM Medical Labs operates central and specialty laboratories in the United States, Germany and South Africa. The acquisition gives Labcorp a network in those regions and strengthens its existing biomarker and specialty testing capabilities.
In particular, the deal marks Labcorp’s first entry into Africa. MLM Medical Labs operates the first central laboratory on the African continent to receive full CAP (College of American Pathologists) accreditation.
Labcorp said it is now the only central laboratory provider with a wholly owned laboratory network spanning four continents: North America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
Brian Caveney, head of Labcorp’s biopharma laboratory services and chief medical and scientific officer, said, “Clinical trial sponsors need scientific expertise, global reach and operational flexibility to advance increasingly complex development programs.”
He added, “MLM complements and strengthens Labcorp’s ability to support sponsors of all sizes, from emerging biotech companies to leading pharmaceutical companies.”
