Portuguese researchers have identified two fusion keys that the COVID-19 virus uses to enter cells.
The first peptide makes initial contact with the host cell membrane, while the second penetrates more deeply and destabilizes the membrane.
The researchers assessed that this fusion mechanism may be common to multiple coronaviruses and could help prepare for future pandemics.
