Targeting GPX1 inhibited tumor growth, highlighting potential for new anticancer drug development

A new GPX1-OSBPL8 signaling axis that prevents the natural death of cancer cells has been identified as a ‘brake.’ Under oxidative stress, OSBPL8 recruits GPX1, which prevents lipid peroxidation and suppresses cell death. GPX1, which is overexpressed in at least three types of cancer, including pancreatic cancer, has emerged as a new target for anticancer drug development.
