U.K.-based GSK said Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare approved Hepsavgo (bepirovirsen) as a functional cure for chronic hepatitis B. Hepsavgo is an antisense oligonucleotide that inhibits RNA production by the hepatitis B virus. The Japanese approval was based on results from the phase 3 B-Well trial, which confirmed a 19% functional cure rate among adults with low surface antigen levels.
