UK-based GSK said Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare approved the antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) bepirovirsen as a functional cure for chronic hepatitis B. The approval was based on results from the phase 3 B-Well trial, which confirmed a 19% functional cure rate among adults with surface antigen levels of 3000 IU/mL or less. GSK is also pursuing regulatory applications in several regions, including the United States.
