A Chinese research team reported in JCI that venetoclax pretreatment significantly enhanced the antileukemic activity of γδ T cells. The pretreated γδ T cells had increased mitochondrial content and shifted their metabolism toward fatty acid oxidation, resulting in greater proliferation and reduced exhaustion. Because the method is simple and low-cost, it is expected to contribute to the development of “off-the-shelf” γδ T-cell therapies.
