A study found that a single ion channel, TTYH3, can regulate three cellular functions: lysosomal fusion, autophagy and senescence. The study showed that TTYH3 promotes autophagy by releasing chloride ions and suppresses AKT/mTOR signaling. TTYH3 overexpression improved the phenotype of CLN7-deficient cells, suggesting its potential as a treatment for CLN7 disease.
