A technology has been developed to precisely classify E. coli into 14 types based on genetic fingerprint patterns. Using 83 publicly available genomes, the method combines the repeat structure of the RSXC gene with its surrounding arrangement to distinguish even subtle variations that are difficult to identify with existing standard analytical methods, recording a discriminatory index of 0.726. The researchers plan to distribute the technology to agricultural product safety management agencies after validating its field application and confirmed that pathogenicity and antibiotic resistance can also be predicted from the length of the genetic fingerprint.
