A research team at Peking University developed the ContactSeek framework, which uses AI AlphaFold3 to improve the accuracy of gene editors. The AI model integrates analyses of protein structure and nucleotide sequence data to identify key amino acids that cause off-target activity in two major base-editing systems, ABE and CBE. In practice, optimized variants created with this technology demonstrated superior performance to existing high-fidelity editors, suggesting that the framework could contribute to the future development of precision gene-editing technologies.
