DPT⁺ fibroblasts have been identified as the cause of treatment resistance induced by androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in prostate cancer, and two new targets for blocking this process have also been identified. DPT⁺ fibroblasts activate complement signaling, depleting CD8⁺ T cells and creating an immune-evasive environment. This opens the possibility of developing combination therapies that simultaneously target the DPT⁺ pathway and the new targets TSPAN1 and NRXN1.
