Researchers at Japan’s Kyushu University have developed a “super HGF” that increases the binding affinity of the muscle-regeneration signaling molecule HGF by more than 2-fold using “lipoic acid trisulfide (LASSS).” The substance was confirmed to react with HGF at a ratio of 1:8000 and prevent nitration, a cause of aging. Its effects were also confirmed in a mouse model of muscle atrophy, raising the possibility that it could be developed as a treatment for sarcopenia in the future.
