The PAPOLA enzyme has been identified as a key factor that worsens disease in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). PAPOLA increases GSTM2 mRNA expression, reprograms metabolism and promotes the self-renewal of leukemia stem cells, according to a study published in Nature Cancer (IF 28). Cordycepin, a PAPOLA inhibitor, suppressed tumors in AML models, demonstrating its potential as a new treatment.
