The reason the heart accounts for less than 0.1% of all cancers and is rarely affected by cancer has been uncovered after 100 years. According to a study published in the international journal Science, the heart’s continuous mechanical contraction and relaxation were found to significantly reduce cancer cells’ ability to survive and metastasize. The discovery opens the possibility of developing new nonchemical cancer treatments that mimic the physical forces of the heartbeat.
